Now that I am officially back on the continental 48 I'll be chasing after riding all 50 states. In keeping with the rules of the Games (as well as just to keep some traffic up in the forum) I will be posting up pictures of my captured states on this thread in addition to what I post on my Instagram.
I had Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Hawaii, and Alaska before the LDRC and the Games officially kicked off, so I'm sorry, but I do not have any pictures of those signs. Well...Hawaii doesn't have one, but that's just a technicality. Even though I'm already claiming it (since I now live here and have ridden a little) I will get a picture of the Virginia sign hopefully today when I come back from capturing North Carolina as well. Ride Far folks!

Virginia signed captured. What I didn't put on my Instagram is what my stupid ass did due to a momentary lapse in judgement right before taking this picture. I saw the sign coming up, slowed way down and found a nice smooth transition spot from the road to the grass shoulder. However, it has been raining a lot, and that grass was only just hiding mud. Needless to say, with the front turned slightly to come off the road, I hit the mud and the front end very quickly exited from beneath my bike. I pulled an old dirtbike move out of my pocket, and slammed my right foot down and goosed the shit out of the throttle causing it to spin around to the left keeping the front end as close to under my bike as I could while hoisting this 700+ pound behemoth back up. I managed to not drop it, and only caught a little dirt on the bottom of my forward controls. It could have ended up a lot worse, but thankfully I managed to keep her up. Just goes to show you that no matter how many miles you've got under your belt complacency can be a killer. Stay alert, stay prepared, and ride far, folks.

#8 ...and since I was grabbing the VA sign that obviously meant that I needed to take a stroll through the North Carolina country side. Nothing major, just a leisurely ride around enjoying the 70 degree weather we had today. I was on US-13 mainly, waving at cows and old farmers sitting on their front porches. When I decided to head down this way I saw on Google Maps that there was supposed to be a "Welcome to North Carolina" sign, but when I got here there wasn't. Instead there was a "Welcome to Gates County" sign that had a picture of the North Carolina flag on it. I'll leave it to y'all if that is acceptable. I'll be back through NC at some point, so there is open opportunity to get another picture if y'all want. Take it easy out there!

Me too. Scared the shit out of me, and it was definitely embarrassing.

So, I rode on to Maryland (#9) a couple of weekends ago, but I still haven't uploaded the picture. I tried earlier, but Photobucket wasn't working. I've also been riding between Florida (#10) and Georgia (#11) all week but haven't gotten a picture yet. I'm hoping to do that, and also to knock out a ride to South Carolina this weekend.

I wish I could have made it the actual signs on the side of the highway, but there was no way in hell I was going to pull over on the side of I-95 with people flying past me in excess of 70 mph. Nope. Self preservation comes first.
