I recently bought my first ADV style helmet. Since I owned and loved a SHOEI Neotec for years, I opted to stay with the brand and choose the Hornet X2.
I have a pretty large head so had to go with the XL. The design fits well for a medium oval head shape, in my case comfortable snug and not struggling put it on or take it off. The bottom line here, is that fits really comfortable and is well padded.
The visor is quite wide and you don't feel it's there at all, I also bought a spare tinted shield and was fantastic while riding in sunny days. (and looking badass!) One thing I love, is that you don't have to remove the beak to change the visor, and the change is very simple, you can do it all in seconds. The beak is also removable, and all it takes is two quarter turn knobs and a top snap slot to get it off, again, all done in seconds. So it's not a hassle to go from full ADV to Jet Pilot style at any point.
The beak is designed with six gills that reduce the air drag to a minimum while still protecting your vision from the sun. I rode with the beak on at highway speeds with no lift at all while looking straight. Definitely you feel a bit of a drag when you turn your head at high speeds, but it's nothing near "neck breaking" levels.
The interior is well padded, and it comes with detachable ear pads that helps you fit any speaker of a comm system, or your earbuds and not having any pressure.
In my experience, the only gripe I have with the helmet is about ventilation. The front vent broke on the first day on my last ride, it's a weak slat of plastic, compared to the robust full button of the SHOEI Neotec. So I was stuck with one setting of air which was not enough. I removed the chin curtain to bring more airflow into my face, but I felt in general was not adequate.
Great helmet overall, and very quiet in my opinion. Amazing aerodynamic design and great open unobstructed view.
Cheers!
